NEW - - New Marijuana Resources & Factsheets (CDC)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently added and updated the following marijuana resources:

NEW - - Marijuana Use Prevention Resource Bank

The Colorado Department of Education created and maintains a Resource Bank for public schools consisting of evidence-based, research-based and promising materials and curricula pertaining to marijuana use prevention.

Colorado Department of Education Marijuana Use Prevention Resource Bank

  • This resource bank provides public schools in Colorado the tools necessary to help address marijuana in the age of legal recreational use for adults.

Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE)

  • Colorado.gov/Marijuana: This website was created in 2014 and is managed and administered by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment on behalf of the Office of the Governor and in partnership with a broad team of Colorado State agencies and partners. The Colorado.gov/marijuana was created to provide statewide current information for the general public about the laws, data and health effects of marijuana. The information available here will continually expand to feature a Spanish language version of the site, newly released data and public awareness campaigns to inform Coloradans.

  • ."Good to Know" Connecting with Youth Groups Took Kit.

    • In January 2015, the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment kicked off the Good to Know campaign to educate Colorado adults and visitors about the safe, legal and responsible use of retail marijuana. That campaign has now evolved into the Responsibility Grows Here efforts. Some of the Good to Know documents are still available below:

  • Published by the Seattle Children's Foundation in 2014

  • This guide was created in Washington and contains information about Washington resources and laws, however the advice is applicable in Colorado.

  • The guide contains information about effects of marijuana on adolescent physical and behavioral health, tips for parents to talk to their children about not using marijuana even if they have used it, and signs that a teen may be using marijuana.

Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (RMHIDTA)

  • The Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (RMHIDTA) program has published annual reports every year since 2013 tracking the impact of legalizing recreational marijuana in Colorado. The purpose is to provide data and information so that policy makers and citizens can make informed decisions on the issue of marijuana legalization.

  • The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) mission is to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America's communities.

  • Download digital versions of research relating to youth and marijuana use: Resources & Research on Youth and Marijuana

  • Smart Colorado: Smart Colorado is the only non-profit organization focused on protecting the health, safety and well-being of Colorado youth as marijuana becomes increasingly available and commercialized. Smart Colorado formed after the 2012 passage of Amendment 64 to the Colorado Constitution, which legalized the sale and possession of recreational marijuana.

Yale Study: Marijuana May Really Be Gateway Drug

  • Article published Aug. 2012 in the Hartford Courant.

  • The study finds that marijuana use was associated with an increased likelihood of prescription drug abuse in 18-25 year old men and women.
