CSPV Launches New Impact Report: Proven Strategies Show Prevention Is Possible
The Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence (CSPV) has released its latest Impact Report, providing a vital look at over 30 years of successful, scientifically-informed action to prevent violence across communities and schools. The report highlights the critical need for evidence-based strategies, noting that proven interventions have the potential to reduce violence by up to 30%. As our society faces escalating challenges—including surges in hate groups and a rise in mass shooting deaths—CSPV’s work serves as a powerful roadmap for creating lasting change.

Three Pillars of Prevention
The Impact Report details CSPV’s accomplishments across three core areas, all built on a foundation of collaboration and data-driven methods:
- Building Stronger Communities: CSPV implements and evaluates innovative programs, resulting in major successes like the Youth Violence Prevention Center – Denver (YVPC-D), which has achieved a 75% reduction in youth arrests after five years. Youth leaders, known as the Game Changers, empower their peers to drive positive community change.
- Enhancing School Safety: CSPV strengthens safety systems using its Safe Communities Safe Schools (SCSS) Model, which has supported over 200 schools and is now set for national expansion. Other initiatives detailed include the Colorado Rural Schools Safety Project.
- Fostering Evaluation Partnerships: Using a community-driven approach (participatory action research), CSPV conducts evaluations to maximize impact. Projects include studies on Colorado’s Threat Assessment and Management Protocol (CTAMP) and the Gun Shop Project for suicide prevention.
A Call to Action
As Director Beverly Kingston notes, "Transforming research into lasting solutions demands continuous investment."
The Office of School Safety encourages educators, community leaders, and concerned citizens to review this vital resource and explore how these proven strategies can be implemented locally.
