Adult Sexual Misconduct
90 min with school staff. Participants will understand the law providing the framework for adult sexual misconduct, identify three types of sexual harassment, and describe adult/student interactions with green, yellow, and red light indicators. Staff will understand the importance of maintaining professional boundaries with students and identifying grooming of children and the community concerning child sexual abuse.

Mandatory Reporting with emphasis on sexual assault for school staff or youth-serving organizations
90 min with school staff. Learn the methods to meet your statutory obligation. Understand upcoming changes to the law in Colorado. Identify the different forms of child abuse. With delayed and low disclosure rates of child sexual abuse, we will identify emotional and physical signs of sexual abuse, human trafficking, and problematic sexual behavior. Discuss resources for reporting and supporting children.

Childhood Sexual Development
90 min with school staff and/or parents. Children are sexual beings, and staff must be empowered to address sexual conduct issues with a positive and educational response. This workshop is an overview of common sexual behaviors from infancy to adolescence. It provides a framework for leaders, mental health professionals, and staff to identify expected, problematic, and abusive behaviors between adolescents. The session will also address appropriate responses, which must be empathic, non-shaming, and educational to promote sexual health.
Participants will be able to:
- Identify common sexual behaviors
- Articulate what makes sexual behaviors concerning or abusive
- Respond appropriately
In a lecture format using PowerPoint with discussion, participants will work through scenarios to gain confidence in responding to sexual behavior.
Sexual Harassment and Grooming for school and youth-serving organization staff
120 min with school and youth service organizations. Participants will learn to identify the five stages of grooming behavior - victim selection, access, trust building, desensitization to physical touch, and maintenance (Winters & Jeglic, 2017). Additionally, they will learn developmentally appropriate responses to disclosure of sexual abuse and boundary violations. This includes specific phrases, referrals, and mandatory reporting requirements in the State of Colorado. They will also practice bystander intervention by witnessing boundary violations as a form of sexual violence prevention.
Trauma-Informed Responses to Children's Sexual Abuse Disclosures
90 min for school staff, mental health professionals, and victim advocates. Children who disclose sexual abuse are looking for support and for the abuse to end. Children disclose to people they see as safe adults who can help them. As a safe adult, we want to provide the best trauma-informed support. In this workshop, trainers cover best practices for responding to disclosures, including immediate responses to the disclosure, mandatory reporting, and follow-up support.
Pornography Isn’t Going Away, So What Are We Doing About It?
90 min Today's porn is violent, misogynistic, racist, and ubiquitous. This workshop by The Office of School Safety will provide youth perspectives on porn consumption, including methods of exposure and ages of onset. The neuroscience of experiencing pornography with a developing brain will be examined. The session will promote strategies to navigate the online world, knowing that youth are encountering porn both intentionally and accidentally. Resources for both schools and families will be provided to use at once.
Learning objectives include:

- Strategies that work to curb porn use
Cyber Safety and Sexting Prevention
45- 60 min talk for middle and high school students. General concepts of online safety, including safety features of gaming, phones, social media, Colorado Juvenile Sexting laws, and sextortion scams will be addressed. Apps’ terms of use, location settings, personal information, and consent regarding online safety and real-life concerns are included. Also available for parents and caregivers is a 60-minute talk reviewing social media, gaming, and technology trends of concern. Reviews technology benefits, mental health consequences, safety, conversation starters with youth, parental controls, and resources for safety.
Teen Dating Violence
60-minute training for schools and multi-disciplinary groups. One in 10 teenagers may experience teen dating violence. It includes stalking, harassment, and physical or sexual abuse. Due to poor examples of healthy relationships in their lives and the media, it may be difficult for teens to identify if they are in an unhealthy relationship.
