This comprehensive training, based on the work and with the permission of Dr. Jonathan Singer, Dr. Scott Poland, and Dr. Terri A. ERbacher, equips school staff with the knowledge and tools needed to effectively address suicide risk in students. Participants will explore critical statistics and trends, as well as the legal and policy considerations relevant to schools. The training covers essential topics such as identifying risk factors and warning signs, providing a foundation for early intervention.
Attendees will gain in-depth instruction on using a proven suicide risk assessment protocol, which includes a screener and assessment, creating individualized safety plans, implementing effective follow-up strategies and monitoring tools to ensure ongoing support. Prevention strategies and postvention approaches will also be discussed empowering schools to foster a proactive and resilient environment.
The Suicide Risk Assessment training ensures staff are prepared to respond confidently and compassionately, promoting student safety and well being. Offered free of charge by the trained staff from the Colorado School Safety Resource Center, this training has options that fit your professional development needs. This training is 4 hours overall, but can easily be broken into two and targeted for the appropriate audience. The first 2 hour portion is ideal for policy developers and supportive administration and safety/crisis team members; the second portion is an in-depth look at the protocol and its use and is ideal for school-based mental health providers. The training provides resources including the Suicide Risk Assessment Toolkit for use with school staff. This training also meets requirements for Colorado professional educator licensure renewal.
