Encouraging news from The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE)
The suicide rate for youth ages 10 to 18 has fallen to its lowest point since 2007. In 2024, the rate was 5.85 deaths per 100,000 youth, a significant decrease from the peak rate of 12.91 in 2020.
CDPHE credits this progress to the effectiveness of programs and partnerships that provide critical support to young people. These include initiatives like the Second Wind Fund, which offers free suicide-specific therapy, and I Matter Colorado, which provides up to six free mental health sessions for youth.
This positive trend shows that our collective efforts are making an impact, but there is still work to be done. You can view the entire post on the CDPHE website to learn more about the data and the programs helping to prevent suicide among Colorado's youth.
