New: Threat Assessment - What Parents and Guardians Need to Know

This new training is designed for parents and the general public; it is therefore accessible directly from the OSS website. No user sign-up required.


The OSS provides no-cost online trainings through Co.Train.org. These trainings allow individuals, regardless of their location, to participate in training opportunities through computers or devices with an internet connection. These are also perfect for schools, educators, organizations, departments, groups, etc. that have persons in multiple locations, do not have access to classrooms, or who cannot bring everyone together in the same place at the same time. A printable certificate is available upon completion for each course.

Making Referrals to your Threat Assessment Team - TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE

  • Making referrals to the appropriate professionals whenever a staff member is concerned about a student is a major responsibility of all school staff. Sometimes, the referral may need to go to the school's threat assessment team. Having a better understanding of the possible warning signs or indicators of a student who may be at risk for violent behavior, will help staff make these referrals in a timely manner.
  • Reporting a student of concern will afford the threat assessment team the ability to assess the danger and initiate the necessary safety measures and resources to keep everyone safe. This workshop is designed for all school staff so that they will know when it is appropriate to refer a student to the threat assessment team and to encourage staff to report. This module is not designed to train the threat assessment team members, but to enable all staff to contribute to the safety of the school. It is brought to you by the Colorado School Safety Resource Center, an office of the Colorado Department of Public Safety.

Mandated Reporting of Child/Sexual Abuse for School Staff

  • Release Date August 2017 This course offers an overview of the prevalence of child abuse and barriers to reporting it, indicators of the various types of child abuse, and instructions on making a proper report and respond to the needs of your school community. The course is instructive on the reporting of all types of abuse, but places an emphasis on sexual abuse because it is unique in that it requires secrecy and manipulation. By watching for vulnerabilities among students, the emotional and behavioral manifestations of sexual abuse, and the behaviors of the adults who care for our children, school communities will be better situated to report it, and to prevent it from occurring in the first place.
