Grants Corner
Feedback from Fountain-Fort Carson School District:
February 2026
"Fountain-Fort Carson School District received $400,400.00 from the School Security Disbursement Grant Program. The grant was awarded to support physical safety across the district. Fountain-Fort Carson School District has 14 schools serving approximately 7,800 students. This district has worked for the last 10 years to ensure that all schools have one point of entry, and internal school structures support students and staff to quickly be secured in an emergency. The funds awarded through the School Security Disbursement Grant Program have allowed the district to install additional badge readers at external and internal doors that are heavily accessed by staff to allow for fluid movement across the school and campus. This ensures that doors remain locked to individuals external of the school.
Additionally, the funds were used to provide internal classroom locks in every classroom across the district, so teachers are not required to use a key to lock their classroom in an emergency. This allows for efficiency as well as the ability for students, staff, and administrators to enter classrooms without disruption. Fountain-Fort Carson School District is thankful for the Colorado Office of School Safety for the opportunity to participate in the School Security Disbursement Grant Program and believe that the funds from the grant have made our schools safer."
Feedback from Gardner Valley School:
January 2026
"When we learned we would have to replace our entire security camera system despite it still working beautifully, nobody was inspired by the challenge. Our tiny student body and ultra-rural location mean that lions, rattlers and bears (oh my!) comprise our biggest security threats and our existing cameras were perfectly adequate for those. Squeezing the dollars from our already-tight post-COVID budget presented yet another hurdle, so when we found out about the School Security Disbursement grant it was a welcome light at the end of the bureaucratic tunnel!
Today, we have a much better view of the entire campus, fewer blind spots than we ever thought possible, and the ability to save clips we might need later. With the support of the Department of Public Safety, this project was done in about a year without sacrificing our other priorities. Thanks to Charli and Chamone’s guidance, even the reporting requirements were manageable. We are so grateful for all you do to keep students across Colorado safe, and focused on their learning!"
