The Colorado School Safety Resource Center provides training, technical assistance, consultation and resources to all pre-K through higher education schools. The Grants Unit oversees all state grants for schools and provides workshops on researching and applying for funding. The Crisis Unit provides training for school professionals in crisis protocols and provides additional support in the aftermath of a critical incident if requested.
Elections can be a turbulent time for our communities and schools. After elections schools and communities can experience acts of bullying, bias, discrimination, anger and violence. These acts can often cause fear and distress. An act of violence impacts children and youth more than a natural disaster. When an act of violence happens children can experience multiple mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, grief, and guilt, but are not limited to these.
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has shared a new resource to help kindergarten through grade 12 (K-12) schools and their law enforcement and community partners create tailored approaches to addressing anonymous threats of violence, including those received on social media. The toolkit outlines steps school leaders can take to assess and respond to anonymous threats, better prepare for and prevent future threats, and work in coordination with law enforcement and other local partners when threats arise.
